As a perantau living in Bali, I deeply admire the Balinese way of creating balance through community, ritual, and the continuous circle of giving, especially embodied in the humble canang.
Visually, I imagine a Balinese person praying in a perfectly symmetrical sila position, with the canang sari as the focal point, while unseen foreign hands reach from below and grasp at the roots beneath him, representing land, ownership, and the uncertain future of what he will leave for the next generation.
For me as a perantau, the reflection is also a question of my own position |
Am I merely another observer benefiting from the beauty and opportunities of Bali, or can I contribute to the circle without becoming part of what takes from it?
